[sdiy] When NOT to use sockets for chips ?

Thanks everyone for the replies. The circuit I'm building is a version of
the JH 2040 VCF. I'm using SSM2210 and SSM2220 (lead free) for the matched
pairs. I usually use sockets and build or veroboard (no strips). I'm
figuring, if I really screwed-up the board and I can't get it to work, I can
at least salvage my chips and try again. Keeping my fingers crossed.
