Maybe all led's are turned on and off (or switched between Lightsource and
lightdetector) so fast that its not recorded (29 fps mpeg?). If I would make
such a device, I would do it that way too. Twice the resolution. Or, One Row of
leds is used as emitter, and the next row detects the "fingerglow". Not sure
how the rows on the side would be measured then.

I would absolutely LOVE this being implemented as a mouse, or a simple X-Y-pad,
or a PItchbend/Modwheel combo, or a ROland D-2 clone thingy (make that Korg
ChaosPad clone thingy), or .. <insert handy pc-periferal/midi controller here)
