for me the "why?" answer is because this is an input device which 
could also function as an output device, and the combination of those 
two functions in synthesizer interface design is yet to bear truly 
succulent fruit, imho.

i'm so sick of cheap pots and sparse LED usage .. i want a control 
surface with bling.
