Hm, not sure about you, but if I get a crappy copy of something I 
definitely want -- and later the original product is re-issued, then I 
buy that very product, even though I still have a copy of it.

However, most of the time I just can't buy the product and have to live
with copies, because the original rightholder sees no market or just
doesn't want to re-issue -- but at the very same time just sits on his
intellectual property for not ruining some possible re-issue market,
even though that probably will never happen anyway.

Is that a legitimate reason for generating copies? Possibly not, but I 
can damn well understand people who distribute or buy copies of stuff 
not being sold anymore.
