Well, actually the statement was "it's piracy like this that makes me less
likely to release anything new in the future." I don't read the gist of
"oh, well, fuck it, my work has been bootlegged, I'm going to sell all my
synths and give up" anywhere in that sentence.
He didn't quit publishing because his work was being pirated. In fact,
piracy was never even mentioned when he discussed his reasons for folding up
the operation. What's stated, in fairly plain English, is that piracy
certainly doesn't inspire him to publish again. MAP was there for a long
time, he held onto it long after it was apparent that it was a lot of work
for very little return. Sometimes a situation like that can turn something
you love into something you don't even want to think about. Man, if I had
to do this stuff for money, I'm sure I'd end up hating it.
I've seen enough of the picture to understand his reasons, but it's not my
place to go throught the list. He's not being malicious or petulant, his
life has just moved on. Maybe someday he'll get back to it, but that's his
choice.
When MAP folded, he said (paraphrasing) "So Long and Thanks for all the
Fish", and he meant it. It doesn't mean that his creations are suddenly no
longer his....
