an elegant solution could be to have those manuals available as electronic

documents only (locked pdf, non editable, and printable only with a pwd)
sold online from a well-known site (MOTM for instance) with a Payapl
button. The idea is to have an automated solution : every time a paypal
payment is received, the document is sent via email to the customer along
with the pwd to unlock printing... That way, no need to duplicate paper
stuff nor to ship it via snail mail, and all transactions can be checked
on
the paypal account (and any copyright fee can be easily calculated and
transfered to the copyright owner).
This would not eradicate piracy, but would certainly lower the risks.
I'm presently working on a similar (yet slightly different) commercial
website where digital data is generated on the fly as pdf docs every time
an order is placed, but I guess some open source solutions might be
avaialable...
