Cheater: You said in your original post that you would like to build a DJ
mixer with killing EQ. I suppose what you really want is partly to be able
to adjust eq balance from different records to make them fit into the mix,
and partly to be able to kill the bassdrum to allow for smoother mixes,
right?
When I was thinking along the same lines, I figured I'd want a >= 24dB
switchable hi- or lowpass with sweepable cutoff for band killing purposes,
and then another set of normal eq controls (ie bass, mid, hi). The latter
doesn't have to be very strong; +- 5 dB range is plenty and gives you more
precision. The hi/lowpass should be as steep as possible however, so you can
"pick out" individual instruments from the mix.
I tried a digital model of this and it worked very good. 12 dB/oct for the
hi/lopass wasn't steep enough, however.
