Some work fine. the first I used was the BurrBrown PCM56P
www.audiochips.net/data/pcm56.pdf 
but the world has moved on.
Typically these 16 bit audio devices aren't guaranteed for
offset & temp stability, but in practice, I never saw a 
problem.
