No I can't agree with that. Its more a function of
time.
The 1N914 was more of a 1970's vintage part, almost
universally replaced in the 80's and 90's by the
1N4148. The common North American diode is now the
1N4148.
I'd say with virtually complete confidence
Newbies... 1N914 = 1N4148. Sub them to your heart's
content
