Actually, this doesn't give quite the desired effect either. Although 
many big mixing desks with VCAs use the expo response THAT VCA, the 
slider's are far from linear. Helpfully the pot response is named 'VCA 
response' and ALPS pretty much are the sole suppliers for these things 
outside the fancy P&G ones.

On the THATcorp website there are some circuits detailing how one can 
make a linear pot behave more correctly using a couple of diode breakpoints.
