[sdiy] newbie questions: ribbon cables

woah... no...  (imho... :^)

few sockets these days have enough depth to protect the pins. The
pins on ribbon cable sockets are MUCH longer than typical DIP ICs...
and these cables will not mate proplerly with most of the sockets.

We used to stock a special high profile socket by Augat for making the
DIP cable connections. The usual leaf sockets (AMP Diplomate) did not
mate properly.

I'd take a block of soft aluminum, and drill holes in it to make a tool.
Take you fifteen minutes... lasts forever.
