i had a similar problem (step 1 lit but no play) when i was working on my
606. it occurred right after i removed all i/o jacks. it turns out the
run/stop footswitch input on the back was a closed jack. when i removed
this jack, the clock was no longer going to the cpu. i would have saved
some time if i'd known the type of input jack before i disconnected it.
having messed about a fair amount with the 606/303 clock signal i'd say
you don't have clock at the moment. the stop/start line is being held
high (+5) if you're getting a lit first step. for the sequencer to run it
requires stop/start stay high + a clock signal. try the dinsync at back
to see if an external xox box can run it.
