Right, Harry, this looks like the standard, textbook, negative-resistance 
circuit.  I used a clamped version of this to make SNICster waveshaper, 
which basically folds a Saw into a Tri.  Another way to do the same thing 
is to subtract a linear response from the response of a high gain clipping 
amplifier.  Not  quite sure how Michiel is using the negative resistance, 
but it could probaly be worked out with a circuit similar to the EDN one.
