Hi!

Maxim announces a nice Sample & Hold Chip that solves the old problem of
limited hold times:

The DS4303R offers a sample & infinite hold.
This is done via an ADC for sampling, a nonvolatile memory (so you can
even switch off your synth and the value is still stored) and a DAC
for the output. The resolution is 12Bit and gives +/- 1mV resolution.

The available part is designed for a supply of +2.4 to 3.6volts but there
will be a part for +4 to +5.5 volts.

Bad news: It has a very small 5-SOT23 package so breadbording is a
little bit difficult - but possible.
The EEPROM storage is 50000 times minimum...
What happens after that? For synths it would be no problem ff only the EEPROM
storage is not working - so after switching off the voltage is not stored - but
if the normal operation (without nonvolatile storage) would be not possible -
this would be really bad... Let's try it out.
