There is no contradiction here. The slide circuit is briefly enabled,
but the new note data has not yet been loaded into the DAC, so the
information at the input of the slide circuit remains unchanged. So
although the slide circuit is enabled the pitch of the VCO does not
appear to have been changed.
So the slide effect of the pitch moving upward or downward to the next
note does not take place until the new note is created.
Colin Fraser and Robin Whittle have looked into this in more detail than
I. Hopefully, one of them will pipe up here.
But the engaging of the TB303's slide circuit does have some impact on
the CV signal. But its not a slide as such, more of a blip in the CV
output. Whether the VCO actually responds to this tiny blip is not known
to me. I think this happens on every note whether the next note is
played legato or not.
The TB3031's spike circuit does blip for a longer time so it may well be
more noticeable.
