Heh... when we were there last week, my wife and I hiked down a little
(about a mile of walking, a few hundred feet down) in the afternoon. By that
time, some folks were coming back up from the river (a big hike, too much to
do in+out in one day, in fact they rescued 250 people last year who tried it
and failed). These people had poles and said that they were a big help,
taking some of the burden off of your knees when climbing. They sold us on
the concept. :-)
