Hey Joe,
You might want to check the Forest Mimms books. I know the Radio Shack
experimenters book he created has all sorts of simple/fun circuits, but I
don't know if that one is available anymore. Look for the "Experimenter's
Mini Book" series that should still be available at Radio Shack. I think he
has other books available, too. HOWEVER, most schematic books you'll run
across are just that: schematics. They're not going to have complete
step-by-step instructions for putting the circuits together. If you're going
to prototype them first, then you should be okay as far as being able to
explain how to wire the things up.
