Here's a thread that has gone on too long without me opening my fat
mouth... ;^P
How big of an X-Y table would it take to get the same overall effect ?
You could make a small X-Y table, maybe 16 x 16... with 8:1 multiplexers
on input and output lines. Something like the Oberheim "matrix
modulation"
idea. That could give you a vast, yet finite set of virtual patch cords
for your system.
You could cut the hardware size to a small fraction of what might be
otherwise necessary. And not have to cascade too many chips...
