even after reading the books, it's pretty much a 'suck it and see'
situation.
I notice on the glasgow theremin circuit, there is a note saying to do the
layout the way they say. That (in my experience) is code for "we spent
weeks hacking around until we gave up & used separate chips & fluked a
layout that kind of works".
So I would definitely just copy theirs as close as you can. The chips are
like 20 cents each, after all.
I never got the glasgow theremin to work very well myself.
I went optical instead.
