I've used quite a few thousand Alps snap-in pots without problems.
(or, more importantly, my custoners have used them).

I have some Alps joysticks (though I havn't used them in a product)
and, they soldered without melting.
On the subjest of pots, there are some VERY bad clones of Alps from 
China.
And, I doubt that Alps themselves are asking 0.75 euro, it's a retailer 
asking that.
