The 'quadrupling' should not have worked... the doubler will not
put out a square wave, so the quad pulses will come in sets of two,
close together.

If your circuit receiving the pulses then divided this by two... that would
work.  At the fastest note setting (without division) you should have gotten
WAY MIDI SHUFFLE !!! :^P

actual results often do vary.
