If you want to stick with 1v per octave you need enough volts..
and, unless you are amazing at layout & shielding, every few
dB of sig/noise advantage helps.
Plus of course there is the weight of history..
Analog design articles are in fact full of the woes of designing
with incredibly shrinking voltages. The latest idea (I kid you not)
is miniature voltage up-converters on the chip for the analog side of
mixed signal stuff!
