[sdiy] Tube Echoplex repair question

Hi List,
Recently acquired a garage sale EP-2 vacuum tube Echoplex... electronics 
 are working after replacing the electrolytics, but the regen is quite 
weak. Searching  the net, found a couple of pics of a similar unit that 
 appears to have a flat spring pressing a piece of felt against the tape 
to maintain tension. Anyone have any hints for building a replacement 
tensioning spring (DIY content), or know of a source for them?
