Isao Tomita.
I am not sure how many people in the analogue synth world are familiar
with his stuff; I know I have never met anybody who has ever heard of
him. He is my all-time favourite synth artist. He's been making
music since the early 70's on massive modular analogue synths and
4-track tape recorders, and has done some absolutely breathtaking
work. I have most of his albums on vinyl and love his stuff. Most of
his early stuff (the best stuff imho) was composed on massive modular
analogue synth equipment, much of it completely monophonic. He
composed these massive orchestral pieces note by note, recording a bit
here and there, bouncing down to one track, and adding to it. Amazing
stuff.
A brief bit about the equipment he used - from the largest unofficial
fan site: http://www.isaotomita.net/technology.html
A discography: - he mostly covered classical pieces and did some
classical composing of his own, including the score for an old anime
series: http://www.artskool.biz/jem/itc.html
I've been listening to this guy for most of my life and he's been my
major synth influence (well, I do love a bit of tangerine dream of
course.) Love Tomita and greatly admire his work. Anybody here
familiar with him? If not, please check him out - you will be
pleasantly surprised.
Peace out,
~~Ponyboy
