Hi PQ,
Just catching up with my mail so I guess somebody else answered this
later but -
Those are MTA-156 connectors. The 156 refers to the spacing of the
header pins. These connectors are readily made by AMP and others for
modest prices. There are also MTA-100 connectors which are used for
other applications, but those won't fit. I bought some from Digi-key
long ago, but I'd just search for their current part numbers with your
fave distributor. You'll need the headers, which connect to the PCB,
and connectors for your cables. The connectors require internal pins
which are sold separately. Where AMP makes their money is by offering a
handy crimping tool for these pins which costs hundreds of dollars...
helpful if you are crimping these all of the time, but you don't need
their tool if you intend to just make connectors for a handful of
boards. Gently squeezing the clips around the wire with pliers works
just fine, you might ruin a few pins learning how, but it wasn't much
of an issue for me.
To narrow it down a little bit, there are headers which stick straight
off of the PCB, and some which angle back at 90 degrees. It probably
doesn't matter which, but most people seem to go with the first ones.
There are connectors and headers with a locking tab, and without. The
ones with locking tabs are probably a bit more secure, I have only ever
used this type. Lastly, the factor of how many pin are connected. The
EFM modules and most others use the four-pin variety.
Happy EFM-ing,
CJ
