Yikes the formatting of the post was horrid; here's one easier on the eyes
... sorry.
Hi I've been following this thread now for days and felt compelled to say a
few words.
I feel that it's normal to be concerned and express sadness at seeing
something you love decline or become obsolete .. . that's the downside of
progress (that's why
Macluhan and others resisted progress so fervently ! ) and this brings me
to my point.
I get into arguments with my peers over my stubborn views about how progress
is EVIL.
No I'm not saying it's a conspiracy, all I'm saying is people blindly embrace
ALL new technology
and it's social and economic ramifications without ever questioning it .
I had a friend who used to make music on analogs, and in recent years
he's switched completely to physical modeling versions of his fav synths
because, he got "tired of scratchy pots, and noisy switches etc."
What a shame I say , but this person has, in his 'neurotic' way embraced the
new technology is not overly sentimental about all this - that's THE biggest
difference between US and THEM , we are passionately attached to our parts,
machines etc., In
fact I'm still grieving the time I traded alot of my older 'clunky' analog
equipment for
modern versions that NEVER brought me the satisfaction the original machines
did.
I miss my scratchy pots ! (and those God awful sliders on my Odyssey and
Axxe, I needed a wrench to move.)
Tony
