Neat story, by the way. :-)

And I'm truly disapponted that I can't get up in the mornings and be
whisked into an automated shower, Jetsons style, and be bathed and
have my remaining hair shampooed, and beard trimmed a tad once in a
while, before I'm fully awake. However, at least we don't have to eat
little pills for our meals, given to us by Rosie the robot. Of
course, robotic maids, designed to appear more human, could have some
interesting uses that some people might, alas, consider immoral. Ok,
perhaps robotic maids might be a valid use for SMT components. :-)
Surely you must agree that vacuum tubes should still be used in
household and shortwave radios, and that power amps sound great with
tubes in them. I drive cars that are uncomplicated by emissions
controls with engines that I can still work on myself, refuse to use
or own a microwave oven, prefer riding a horse to driving a car, have
been known to use a sickle instead of a lawn mower at times, and am
perplexed by all these young whippersnappers who are always saying
"rah rah rah!" for "progress" despite the consequences of that so
called "progress," which aren't always good. Sometimes progress is
good, but not always. Mumble grumble. Yes, and if I have to hoard
components with through-hole leads that are leaded, along with lead
solder, I shall do so. Not being a Luddite, I can appreciate the
miniaturization in my Qualcomm QCP-820 mobile phone, which is about as
small as cell phones need to be (I have plenty of spares, about
50... recently cornered the used QCP-820 market I think!), but don't
believe that SMT components have to be used in equipment which doesn't
_have_ to be miniaturized... like household radios, which were much
nicer when they had tubes in them, or, of course, most SDIY. :-)
