Well, here's another RoHS casualty: longish back-order times for the
SSM2141P and SSM2142P chips with lead-plated leads; 4 to 7 weeks. The
"PZ" versions of these chips, with non-leaded leads, are in
stock. This is so senseless. Less than 2% of lead is used in
electronic components, etc., and leaded leads and leaded solder work
quite well, and are reasonably safe when used carefully.
On the other hand, one doesn't read much about any serious attempts to
ban the wide-spread use of those toxic herbicides and pesticides on
lawns, golf courses (wastes of crop and pasture land), etc., that are
known to be causing real problems like cancer and a loss of food for
wildlife, not to mention the loss of wild herbs that can be used for
healing purposes. Yet, the environmental extremists ban lead and
re-introduce wolves into areas where people's pets and livestock are
killed by the 4-footed thugs, while also making it illegal to shoot
the wolves to defend their property. Weird. Very, very, weird.
