Seconded, the fun begins when you plug the Theremax into a modular.
BTW, we made a comparison here between the PAIA and the BigBriar.
The BigBriar has a more solid sound, a little more sonic tweakability, and
what does matter the most, has the best playability.
Theremins aren't that unplayable as it seems at first. The problem with the
PAIA (and probably with all of the classic designs) is that the notes are
contained in a smaller space as you go nearer to the pitch antenna.
Unfortunatly at 70/80cm you have to make 10 cm to change the pitch by one
semitone, and at 10 cm of the antenna, you can play 2 or 3 octaves, wich is
unplayable. Between the 2 extremes there is a quite playable zone of two
octaves or so.
The BigBriar has a more linear response, and you are far less disturbed by the
curve (which is far from being completly flat either). It gives you 3 or 4
octaves of playing, and this is in fact a major improvement.
Probably the Theremax could be improved a little as well ? So far i havn't see
any mod for this.
And the last point, the VCA response of the BigBriar is more "reactive", i
mean that it allows some staccato playing, You would have to remove your hand
very fast on the Theremax to get similar effect, not undoable but this little
details certainly makes the difference.
