hehe, thats what I said, so I phoned the rep, and he said he didn't know how 
they got those figures, he reckoned they tested them on sand paper or 
something.
So I figured I'd try it, I've used the same tip to solder all 25 monowaves 
(~1500 joints) and several other projects since (2 years), and the same tip 
is still running fine...
So I have to agree, I reckon they test them by soldering 'files' together or 
somethign extremely abbrasive!.
