That seems to be the most likely goal... the more conformity, the more
they like it. This world needs more eccentrics, does it not?

See, the lead isn't having that harmful effect on society. If it was,
they'd want more lead, not less. Remember, the chief weasels don't
want the people to think and question.

This brings to mind something that I researched back in college, in
the early 1980's, pertaining to leaded gasoline. It seems that not
everyone is affected equally by the lead. Certain inner city
children, who sat on the ground near the street and ate dirt, were the
ones most affected; blacks were more affected by the ingestion of lead
than whites. Of course, if they didn't sit there and eat it, there
wouldn't have been much of a problem for them, doh! ...same with
sticking bits of lead paint in their mouths, but no, it's the fault
of the lead paint and the landlords.

Now, how many of us have who are 40 and over been using solder to
since childhood without any obvious bad effects? Probably quite a
few of us!

A lack of through-hole components is not just bad for the creation of
new equipment, but we need them to repair older equipment. SMD
components won't be useful for tube circuitry, for example. I guess
we're just expected to turn over every piece of older non-functioning
equipment for recycling along with our collections of spare parts.
Think they won't search your house for it some day? Well, 30 years
ago, I'll bet you never thought the government would be scanning
telephone conversations, fining people for not wearing seat-belts,
searching cars without a warrant or just cause, etc. Welcome to the
USSA.

Also, what good are components that one can't keep on hand for years,
or decades, as spare parts?
