[sdiy] Raymond Scott 'Circle Machine'

I've decided that I need to build a Raymond Scott "Circle Machine".  I'll 
probably upgrade it to LEDs but that's all.  I want to keep the mechanical 
and vintage nature of this design.  Anyone else ever thought of building one?

I'm interested in thoughts on the motor and brush mechanism for the 
mechanics.  Seems like it could be made much smaller than what the photos show.
