[sdiy] finding obsolete components

Yeah it's just who has them. A couple clues

1) figure out pieces of gear that used it. Call the mfg. and see if
they have it or sold stock to some company. Eg. Yamaha sold a lot of
stuff to..what is it nts or something? It's on my web page under some of
the CS synths.

2) play hunches; who else made similar gear in that era. This is
particularly useful with DSP's and such..I got a chip from Digitech that
Peavey didn't have any more for an old DPM3 SE keyboard. Roland had it
too but more expensive.

3) ask in places like this. I have lots of obsolete stuff..most of it
isn't what you'd use in a synth though...or is it? I'm going to
experiment some day with some of it hopefully. :-) No telling what kind
of clever uses we can come up with for old tv chroma chips. hehe. I
also have things like the impossible to find OTA's Peavey used in their
color circuits, and some SSM and CEM stuff here. But I still work hard
for the living I get and need parts for repairs so I only sell the stuff
to people who really need it and are willing to pay for it though I
won't charge high ball prices provided..there is any reference to go
by. If there isn't then I'm usually tentative to let go of it if I
figure it's something I might need next week. -Bob
