Just to confuse things even more...
Algorithms (the term is derived--poorly--from Arabic) are patentable,
programs are copyrightable. So in IP terms they're not the same thing at
all.
But then we could stretch this thread on forever, couldn't we? Unless of
course there's no such thing as forever...
