Aaron says that the 324s handle voltages near the rails, but not that
it'll handle a voltage swing twice as large. There are scaling trimmers
there as well. Since you have these in a Simmons box already, I'd
suggest maybe leaving all of that stuff intact, but making a board with
dual op amps to buffer and then scale the inputs. You could use
multi-turn trimpots and without the Simmons connected, test scaling +/-
10v (or whatever your modules standard) into +/-5v. Then you know that
you'll be safe.
I have done this to a Sequential "MAX" which I have here, but I decided
that I preferred it as it was. Didn't like the VCOs going directly
through the filters. Easier to just play the MAX via a computer (with,
uhh, "Max") and enjoy jumping parameters around in a digital sort of
way. Since the Simmons units aren't computerized, I'd be more likely to
tinker with the hardware.
I guess this is just my preference, rather than real help, as I am not
very knowledgable about electronics yet!
