[sdiy] Switching Matrix

This is somewhat synth related. At work (Joy Mining Machinery
www.joy.com) we are looking at switching matrices to let us easily
configure a test panel differently depending on what options the
customers want on their machine. Thus far I've been looking at
computer controlled switching matrices but they're proving to be
entirely too costly. Then I thought maybe some type of pin matrix
would work better than standard patch cables. The matrix size would be
around 34x168 so it would be fairly large. I figured the guys on the
synth DIY list would know a thing or two about patching. Any ideas?
