This would be my own objection, I don't see this project *selling*
large enough quantities of these dream ICs to bring the price down to
attractive levels.  I believe we're talking numbers in the thousands of
units.  That would mean that the ICs would really have to be used in
new commercial instruments and not just by hobbyists and low unit count
instrument makers.  Modular synthesis does not lend itself to the
brain-lazy masses whereas cutesy presets do (I wanna sound just like
[fill in the blank]).
