[sdiy] Did I miss the purpose of this group?

We are all about talking about technical aspects from synths and
learning from each other....aren't we? ahem. Apologize? Who threw
the first public stone Kevin? Telling a tech who's sharing experiences
both ways to "learn to fix"..... is insulting. I didn't insult you
whatsoever before this. Who needs to apologize here Kevin? If studying
electronics through my B.S. and working in physics research labs, then
at U of O Inst. of Molecular Bio. as central facilities tech for 8
years, then jumping off into my own career where I've managed to make a
living fixing things ranging from computer systems (a living?? ahem..)
to music and industrial electronics... hasn't qualified me as someone
who 'knows how to fix'....then I'm not sure I'll ever reach that point.
I didn't come pre-equipped with all the tools. We all need help
sometimes..or...we waste tons of time. I've done my share of hand
drawing diagrams. It's tedious work and I prefer to do other things
especially with bone spurs starting in my neck. I also have one eye and
it sees great close up...but gets tired easily. If I can ask a question
that will save me reading a low quality schematic, trying to figure out
which connector goes where as they are often illegible like in the
current case of the Omni... then pardon me...but I'm going to ASK rather
than SQUANDERING COUNTLESS HOURS on something.
It's nice when you have an experience like with the op amp and
hey it's probably somewhere in the pages of documentation for one of the
chips...but hey..that's hours of time and eye strain I don't need...
"Learn to Fix".... let's all just be tough techs and 'learn to fix'.
MAYBE if the Japanese guy were a better teacher..he's have had something
more constructive to say. Ya think?
I appreciate the replies I've gotten which help me 'learn to fix'
better....faster. The depths of creation are...un-plumbable. You can't
be a know it all no matter how much you'd like to be. I'd rather
forgoe time wasting to the excess....and simply share what I know with
others and ask in good faith when I'm stumped. Most of my career...I've
always gotten the answer "WE've NEVER seen this problem before!!!"
So...I've done a lot of 'learning to fix' and I don't need some wanna be
know it all telling me that like I'm some jouvenile. You really should
have done a web search before you bit off this project Kevin. Bad
move. -Bob
