Hi Mustafa,
That's a tough one. I'm not quite sure of the best path if you really want
to build your own sample playback machine (or "Rompler" as they are commonly
called when they play back preset samples from Read-Only Memory). You could
check out schematics for commercially available machines, and maybe get some
ideas there. Even if you built the hardware, getting a good set of samples
burned into ROM would be a big project all by itself.
HOWEVER, if you're not completely set on building your own and you want a
relatively simple solution, I'd look into getting a Roland U-20 (keyboard)
or U-220 (rack module only, no keyboard), and one or more of the Roland
factory expansion cards (the "Grand Piano/Clavinet" card would be a great
choice, and the "Pipe Organ/Harpsichord" card might also be something you
would like). I've got a U-20 and I'm very pleased with the piano, electric
piano, organ, pipe organ and harpsichord samples (I've got the Pipe
Organ/Harpsichord card). If you already have a MIDI keyboard you like, then
definitely go for the U-220 (rack version). The U-20 has a reputation for
developing dirty key contacts (like mine has), so the rack module will be
less trouble in the long run. U-20s and 220s show up on ebay all the time,
and you should be able to get one AND the expansion card for less than $250.
Cheers!
Tim (and no, I don't work for Roland) Servo :-)

Subject: [sdiy] IC based Clavichord
As famous beatnik poet Alan Ginsberg says $ They wake up from their beds for
to make clavichords $ I asked to myself how I am living without analyzing
bach clavichord music ?
Finally I decided to build a ic based clavichord but I dont know that :
- How will I load the microchip with clavichord samples ?
- Or where can I find a ready to install clavichord ic ?
Or is there a analog answer ?
Can you help me ?
Best ,
Mustafa Umut Sarac
