[sdiy] Opamp compatibility questions

CA3140E is .68 at mouser. They are a bi-mos input amp and have I think
the standard dual pin config if I recall right...and I'm sure there are
some other amps that would work there but probably not as cheap! The
"N" suffix I thought was just a packaging thing used by some. "A" is
the grade of chip usually. "N" usually appears on dip plastic chips.
Possibly one mfg. just didn't see it's relevance since maybe that's the
only package they made it in? I can't recall the 348's pinout at the
moment...but probably in most apps it can be substituted. I haven't
compared specs on those though. I have lots of both chip and thus never
think about it.
324 and 1458 are very standard pinouts for quad and dual. It's more a
question of what does NOT have the same pinout :-). In quads there are
a few configs and there are some duals in larger packages with comp pins
and so on. LM319 is it comes to mind? Have a bunch of those. Also
some old chips like the XR...oh what is it...anyway there are some odd
ones that don't follow that pinout.
1458 is a dual 741 ish type amp, 4558 an enhancement, 4560 a
japanese near equiv..4562, 4570, 4580...just about all those JRC parts
have the same pinout and are just different alterations on the design in
one way or another I think. -Bob -Bob
