I've been reading about Sherman Filterbanks and I think if I had that much
spare money that'd be the first thing I bought. (I dunno though I'd maybe
wanna buy a Woggle Bug first too.)
I was wondering if anyone knows what style of filter they use.
I've been working on a similar sort of filter unit which was inspired by Ken
Stone's Synthacon Tribute (which looks like a lot of fun - I still have yet
to build it). And also by Grant Richter's Borg Filter Space Box (which is
probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen, but that particular one
doesn't seem to be for sale?).
A while ago I asked about joystick sources and the responses were very
helpful.
I did end up finding two identical analog PC joysticks for pennies.
Them being identical was perfect because I was putting them into the
openings on top of an acoustic modem coupler.
I trimmed off most of the case and the tops screwed off and fit back
pefectly to cover the openings. The purple color is great.
My plan was orginally to put 2 VCO's, 2 LFO's and 2 Filters. I have 4
coaxial pots with solid aluminum knobs for
additional controls.
But then I thought it might be more flexible to just use the box as a CV
source, but that didn't really sound very fun.
So I scrapped the VCO's and decided on putting the LFO's under the joysticks
and the filters under the other.
This seems perfect and versatile. I can use it with any sound source - even
a VCO if I want - or none at all since I want the filters to be able squeal
and squawk all they want.
So I was wondering just what you guys think might be the best filter type to
use here. I do think the CGS Synthacon would be perfect - especially with an
off-board mixer for the multiple inputs. But the Sherman has me curious. But
really I don't mind the idea of building tons and tons of filters because I
have another filter box in the works too. I think maybe I might be
trivializing everything else but oh well.
