[sdiy] Solder paste and toaster ovens

   A standard heat gun, like for shrink tubing?  Won't cut it.  You 
_might_ be able to get a toaster oven to work, but I'd wager you'd have a 
bit better luck with a convection based oven instead.  In any case, I'd 
recommend finding a thermojet hand-tool.  It has a very fine-point 
nozzle that directs superheated air right to a specific point.  Great 
for doing tight SMT rework.

  Put it upside-down on the chip?  That way the leads are sticking up and 
then you can wire them however you'd like.  Otherwise, I'd have to see an 
image of what you're doing to give you a better suggestion.
