That's great. I was using an EG to control the glide time on my VC Slew module. It has an appeal to it. But your way works better and is much more precise.

Use an envelope generator to control the VCO frequency. 
Attack fast as possible, sustain level zero, decay time sets 
glide time. The amount of EG you apply to the VCO sets the
relative position of the glide start.
