Carlos's Synergy patches, believe it or not, rarely use more than four 
oscillators. There's three things the Synergy does, that I have rarely 
seen elsewhere, which gives it such expressive power: 1) you can put an 
envelope on the frequency as well as the amplitude; 2) the envelopes are 
16 stage; and 3) the rate/stop point of the envelopes is acutally 
specified by two completely separate envelopes, and the Synergy 
interpolates between the envelops depending on velocity (or whatever).

I should mention she also makes use of FM (which the Synergy could do - 
before the DX-7, I believe - but DK didn't make a big deal about it to 
avoid getting sued by Yamaha) - also, the Synergy has triangle as well as 
sine wave tables.
