ebay? I bought an old PCI network card off there for $4.  In my town, 
there are two thrift stores that have old computer sections. these seem 
to be ones people were throwing out, but they had piles and piles of all 
kinds of old computer parts. Maybe you've got something like that 
nearby. I bought some pci cards for $5 each at one of those places. not 
new, but I bought a few of them just to make sure I got one that was 
working ok.
