A friend of mine used to be the service manager at Tapco.
He said they called the stuff "Goop"
They'd buy cheap pots and add this stuff to make it feel like better
quality pots with oil damping.
Was used in the rack mount mixers a lot.
My only recommendation is to take them apart and clean them manually
or test one in a harsh solvent like MEK or Acetone to see if it
survives. On a large mixer, this would be a real drag either way.
Other wise, very hot water might loosen it enough to be rinsed away.
No easy solution for goop.
