[sdiy] Mod Wheel Thoughts

One of the most critical aspects of the mod wheel is the curve of the
mod impartation.
On Minimoogs, the pot is a rev audio taper and only a small fraction
of the entire travel is used.
Admittedly, it's used as a sort of variable shunt, instead of as a
true potentiometer though.

Here's something that might be interesting to use on a mod wheel though.
I haven't really studied it, but it would appear that one could "dial
a curve" relatively easily with it.

Also, a phototransistor is faster than a photocell. (I think you knew this ;-)
But even the IR ones can be pretty sensetive to ambient light.
How ever the design is implemented, it would probably need some
shielding from external light.
I've been prototyping an optical sensor Minimoog contact board for
use as a retail retrofit/upgrade and I was amazed how sensetive some
of these one piece interruptor thingys can be.
They make an *excellent* aftertouch sensor though. :)

Ever consider a hall effect sensor and a strong, but tiny magnet instead? :)

(Thanks, Tom :)
