[sdiy] Timbreon and firmware synth

I have a variety of single board PC's (TEKNOR), 386sx, 486slc, and 486DX.
I haven't done more than do a std. phase/inc table lookup oscillator and
output thru a companion Media Vision DAC. Was easy to write as it had
nothing more than a "pick a number interface" with 32bit phase/inc. There
was plenty of processor freeboard to spare and the form factor is quite
small. It's funny you mention this as i thought again of this, this morning
on the way in to work.
regards,

An old Sun SparcStation (2 or IPX) would be the ideal candidate. It has
the audio codec built-in and can run and network from OpenBoot (a FORTH
system with the occasional extension) without any help from an
operating system.
