[sdiy] Thanks And Questions about digital control

I'm looking at the multiplicating D/A solution. The only reasonably
cheap IC I found was the dual 8-bit D/A TLC-7528 from TI. It doesn't
cost more than 2 pots even in low quantities.

>From what I could read out of the data sheet, it would fit our
purposes perfectly - it's simple to use, doesn't require alot of
external stuff, has a reasonable resolution, and since it's internally
latched one wouldn't have to worry to much about the multiplexing. The
principle drawing basicly says it is an array of resistors with
digitally controlled switches. Have I got this right?

If I understand things correctly it will even go to 2.8 MHZ which
should be enough for all sorts of things. So perhaps one should stock
up on these?

However, since it is so much cheaper than the alternatives it sounds
"too good"; I'm thinking I should smell some sort of rat...
