hmmm... this is the noise we make when we want to tell someone ELSE to
be quiet   (of course the capital letter "S" in the string makes it a shout, right
?  ;^)

Could the origin of this expression perhaps come from a primitive form of audio
masking... saying shhhhhhhhhhh... masks the offending noise ???   :^P
